I improved search and browsing for nearby campus shops so students could find menus faster and complete phone orders in less time.

A difficult ordering journey
Even with shop data available, students struggled to find the right menu and complete an order.

Hypothesis and KPI
I hypothesized that faster information discovery would reduce ordering time and selected task completion time as the KPI.

Competitive analysis
Ordering flows in delivery apps were reviewed to identify useful patterns and opportunities for differentiation.

Two browsing intentions
Users were divided into those seeking a specific shop and those exploring possible menus.
Shop search
A dedicated real-time search flow helps users reach a known shop directly.

Shop recommendations
Collapsing long menus and recommending similar shops shortened exploratory browsing.

Flyer images
Collected flyers are presented as zoomable images for quick menu scanning.

Opening status
Closed shops are marked as preparing and moved down the list to prevent wasted navigation.

Persistent call action
A fixed call button lets users order immediately after reviewing a menu without scrolling back to the top.

Final design
Five improvements—search, recommendations, flyers, opening status, and the call action—were released in the app.

Validating the hypothesis
Task-time comparison showed that ordering became about 44% faster after the redesign.
