Safety Bell Emergency reporting UX/UI design

Safety Bell is an assisted emergency-reporting service for people in Gyeonggi Province who may be vulnerable to crime or accidents, including single-person shops and households.

Reports are sent through a mobile app and a connected hardware device, then managed in a desktop web system. Working with Gyeonggi Province, I designed the end-to-end service system and the UX/UI for each platform.

A reporting system designed for rapid response

The reporting flow was designed with the police and Gyeonggi Province for immediate emergency response. Pressing the hardware button sends a signal through the registered phone, which immediately forwards the pre-registered report information to the police and the provincial control center.

Reporting through the device and mobile app

When a user presses the device button, a push notification lets them check the report status immediately in the mobile app. If the button was pressed accidentally, the user can cancel the false report quickly and prevent an unnecessary institutional response.

Managing a Bluetooth-connected device

The hardware and mobile app communicate using Bluetooth Low Energy. Users can register a device, connect it to a network, and keep it maintained through firmware updates in the app.

Monitoring emergency reports in real time

Emergency reports are received by both the police and the Gyeonggi control center. The monitoring interface shows the location and details of every report in real time so each organization can respond quickly.

A dashboard for improving the service

The administration dashboard provides an at-a-glance view of service usage. Each dataset is visualized in an appropriate format, helping institutional operators find insights for improving the service.

User management for service operations

Registered users are managed through the administration interface. Operators can review, update, delete, and export user data to respond to service inquiries and operational needs.

Working with government organizations

This project was a new challenge: we had to design within defined functional requirements while also meeting GS certification and web accessibility standards.

Balancing the business needs of multiple stakeholders was difficult, but it gave me experience coordinating different perspectives, managing the project, and responding to complex issues.
